It is estimated that almost 70% of today’s 65 year olds will need Long-Term Care at some point in their lives. Since the majority of people can expect to need Long-Term Care, most people should consider Long-Term Care insurance. However, the following factors may affect the likelihood that a particular person may need long term care:
Gender: Statistically, women live longer than men. So women are also more likely to need long term care.
Living alone: If you live alone, you are more likely to need paid care because there is no one available in your home to assist with your daily needs.
Family and personal medical history: Do you have a chronic condition, like diabetes or high blood pressure? If so, you may have a greater chance of developing a disability that requires Long-Term Care. A family history of Alzheimer’s disease or other disease or disability that may be inherited can also increase your chances of needing Long-Term Care.
Age: The older you are, the more likely it is that you will need Long-Term Care.
